Carved from pink lace alabaster Veinous (2003) is a subtle play on Venus. The color veining running through the stone gives a very vascular appearance when finely polished. This lends perfectly to figurative carving where the veining in the stone appears as veins in the final carved figure. Along the side of the figure runs an especially thick red vein that I took advantage of by carving around it to create an umbilical cord that emanates from the back of the figure.
